Trainee RCS Support Engineer

Highly computer literate or Computer graduate who might find “radio” interesting as a career.

RCS (Africa) is a wholly owned subsidiary of RCS in the USA, which is owned by iHeart Media, the largest broadcaster in the USA with over 800 stations under their banner. We have been based in Johannesburg for more than 30 years. However, since Covid, we have operated with all our engineers working from their own home offices.

We have an opening for a trainee/apprentice.

In Africa, some 21 countries speak mostly French, and there are another eight where French is widely spoken. Therefore, those countries have remained unable to approach, sell to, train and support without contracting them to our Paris office. I need to change this situation. Hence our need for a fully bilingual (French/English) speaking/writing person to join us.

Initially, we might require this person to, at RCS’s cost, spend some time in South Africa for training. However, the majority of this training can be done remotely so, after the initial training, they can work from home (wherever that is – in Africa or Mauritius – where RCS will be responsible for their required equipment and Internet access.

We are looking for a fully computer literate young person who is comfortably French/English Bilingual. Preferably someone with a Computer Graduate degree. Note that in Africa we do not do any computer programming, so that is not expected.  RCS will be investing considerable money and time into this person to inculcate them into the Broadcasting Industry and RCS products. As such, we expect that they will need a minimum of a year of training and experience before they begin to be of value to RCS. We will train them further and pay for any such training ourselves.  Microsoft Certification and an RCS Certification in our major products, which are accepted worldwide, would be paid for by us. You would be trained as an RCS Support Engineer servicing our clients in Africa.

It should be noted this person will be considered an intern/apprentice. As such, they would, initially, not perhaps be earning as much as their peers. But, once trained and productive, they certainly should be earning at least as well as their peers.

The person we take on will be entering the world of Radio Broadcasting, and as such be exposed to the best (and the worst) of International broadcasting practices. Whilst I have been with RCS for more than 35 years, working for RCS in Europe, England, Australia, New Zealand and the USA, and as our Chief Engineer for close to 20 years, we expect that this trainee would probably want to move on after three to five years to some other position in the Broadcast industry. The job is most definitely high-stress, and not handsomely renumerated, unfortunately.

Provided they have assisted in training their replacement we would willingly, and actively seek to assist with this move which could be to somewhere in Africa, or anywhere in the World. If they have spent three to four years supporting RCS products they will have attained an extremely comprehensive level of expertise which would open doors to any RCS office, or radio station in the world. We would undertake to actively assist in seeking such employment in whatever country they wish to move to.
