The Chief Executive Officer of Alternative Youth Radio (AYR) in Lofa County, James Papay Kwabo, has been officially recognized as the MoMo Hero of Change for 2024, an accolade organized by Lonestar Cell MTN.
The award ceremony, held on August 16, celebrated Kwabo’s remarkable contributions to his community, highlighting his dedication and impactful initiatives.
As the MoMo Hero of Change, Kwabo will receive a cash prize of 2 million Liberian Dollars (US$10,290).
This recognition is part of Lonestar Cell’s annual effort to honour individuals who demonstrate extraordinary commitment to social improvement and community service.
Kwabo’s award underscores his significant role in fostering positive change within his community, reflecting the values of the MoMo Heroes of Change initiative and its mission to support and uplift local heroes.
He acknowledged voters who enabled him to win the prestigious award, noting that their time was never unnoticed.
“Having 70% of the award decision made by the esteemed, independent, and professional judges and 30% by the public voting, this achievement would not have been possible without your unwavering love, support, and motivation. This is why, we are formally dedicating this award to you, Liberia, and especially to the less fortunate youth, specifically those in rural areas who are confronting daily challenges,” he said.
He said the cash prize will go towards the AYR’s ongoing construction of a professional journalism school and vocational education facility in Zorzor, Lofa County.
“This project, costing in excess of two hundred thousand United States Dollars, is expected to change the lives of well over 15,000 rural inhabitants in the next five to six years through the provision of continuous training and opportunities,” he explained.
“Hence, we are ardently reaching out to all kind-hearted individuals and supporters of our causes who are equally passionate about creating impactful changes, mainly in rural Liberia, to partner with us on this initiative so we can fully realize this dream together.”
Kwabo stressed the need for a frantic approach in repositioning and galvanizing the sector for all young people desiring to achieve primary goals.
Your donations can help us double this amount and guarantee the smooth and timely accomplishment of this impactful project. Let us gather and move forward the change in rural Liberia!
He, however, promised to be more proactive during the time of his workings as the newest MoMo Hero of Change.
“As a group, we can help give a promising future to thousands of young people who are entitled to have a successful life irrespective of their location,” he concluded.
