The Association of Liberia Community Radio (ALICOR), the umbrella organization of more than sixty community radio stations, has re-elected Hector Mulbah, manager of Radio Gbehzohn in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County as its president, and another term of three years.
Mulbah was elected for a second term by the majority of community radio station managers, at ALICOR’s fourth general and elective congress, held in Kakata, Margibi County, on March 30. He was elected after defeating candidate James Kwabo, manager of Alternative Youth Radio, located in Zorzor, Lofa County with 39 votes, constituting 61 percent of votes cast by 64 delegates.
He won along with his two vice presidents, who also recontested for their positions. They’re Quaqua Miller, Manager of Radio Life in Zorzor, Lofa County, Vice President for Administration, and Lawrence Tokpa, Manager of Radio Sehnwei, in Nimba, Vice President for Operations.
Miller and Tokpa Defeated Jenneh Kermokai, Manager of Radio Cape Mount, in Grand Cape Mount Count, and Samule Kplaiwru, of Super Bongese Radio, in Gbarnga, Bong County, with three and 14 votes margin, respectively.
However, the incumbent Secretary General, Kermue Dennis, manager of Stone FM in Harbel, Margibi county, lost told Emmanuel Degleh, manager of Classic FM of the same county, with 30 against 34 votes. Also, Josephus Blagaye, station manager of Voice of Meinpea 100.1 Mhz, located in Nimba who earlier resigned his post as Financial Secretary, recontested for the post and won on white ballot.
ALICOR stands as a cornerstone in rural broadcasting, representing the largest media network in Liberia’s rural areas. Currently, the association receives funds from the Swedish Government funds for its content syndication project, while the American Government, through its USAID Media Activity managed by Internews Liberia, also provides support to numerous of its member radio stations, in the country.
