Cape Town-based radio station Bok Radio says it is creating a buzz in the country music communities, by bringing in American Country music star Kip Moore. The station reveals that the country music community is excited after Bok Radio, in collaboration with Heroes Brackenfell, decided to bring Kip Moore to Pretoria.
Moore is best known for his number one hit: Somethin’ ’bout a truck and was nominated for an American Country Award and a CMA.
Originally, Heroes Brackenfell, with Bok Radio, which broadcasts from Brackenfell and worldwide online, planned to do one show at the Grand Arena, GrandWest on Saturday, 1 April. This show completely sold out in 40 minutes and an additional show was planned for Sunday, 2 April to satisfy the many listener requests with ticket inquiries.
“It started as a dream,” says Wimpie van der Sandt, managing director of Heroes Brackenfell.
“I’ve always wanted to bring my favourite country singer to South Africa. It took months of planning and an impromptu visit to Nashville with many negotiations to make this dream a reality.”
Bok Radio station manager, Wynand van Heerden added that the whole team was amazed by the fantastic support of the Bok Radio listeners.
“Bok Radio is basically the only South-African radio station that plays Moore’s music on a regular basis. We are flabbergasted those 6,500 tickets for one show sold within 40 minutes, so we immediately planned a second show,” Heerden noted.
“It’s an incredible feeling and totally unexpected,” van der Sandt added, noting “but the bigger surprise was the overwhelming interest from Gauteng listeners for tickets.”
van Heerden adds that the Bok Radio Facebook page was inundated with requests from people in Pretoria, Johannesburg, and other parts of the country, even from Namibia, for a similar show in their region.
