Fabric Radio News Director, Cyrus Harmon is among several Liberia journalists attending the 19th African Investigative Journalism Conference (AIJC) taking place in Johannesburg, South Africa.
AIJC is the continent’s leading gathering of working journalists and showcase of the continent’s best investigative reporting, organized annually by the Journalism Program of the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits University) in Johannesburg.
The conference three days event began on Monday and offers inspiring talks, engagements, networking, and cutting-edge training in a range of skills, featuring journalists with a proven track record in investigative journalism and with experience.
Harmon and Fatu Kamara of OK FM are representing New Narratives, as fellows under the Investigating Liberia Journalism Fellowship. They are accompanied by experienced investigative journalism Anthony Stevens of Power FM/TV, who is also an administrator at New Narratives.
Also in attendance from Liberia are Ezekiel Geeplay of Liberty Radio in Sinoe County, Joyclyn Wea of Inprofile Daily, Wremongar Joe of the Center for Media Studies and Peace Building (CEMESP), Gloria Wleh of the Stage Media.
In an interview with RadioInfo Africa, Geeplay hoped that his participation in the conference with further sharpen his skills as an investigative journalist and provides an opportunity to network and learn from others.
“My participation is a major milestone for me as I would share my experience and learn from others as experience sharing from their respective countries,” he said.
The journalists’ selections were based on their interests, work, and experience in investigative reporting.
The program is featuring more than140 speakers in over 80 sessions, with major themes on Artificial Intelligence, Health, Data Journalism, Keeping Journalists Safe and the Future and Sustainability of Investigative Reporting.
Participants are drawn from over 41 countries with at least 350 journalists in attendance.
