The Female Journalists Association of Liberia (FeJAL) has announced a six-month newsroom leadership program for Liberian female journalists.
FeJAL is a partner of the Internews Network and co-implementer of a USAID-funded Media Activity program in Liberia.
In a release, the group said it has received funding under year two of the USAID funded project to increase women’s representation in and through the media, to support women in media professional development, and ensure more coverage on women by female reporters.
The association as part of the activities will design and deliver a special capacity development program for ten female journalists, styled and coin, Newsroom Leaders Fellowship.
The fellowship is designed to increase the leadership and editorial skills of mid-level female Journalists, while building their confidence and overall ability to take on future editorial and decision-making roles in the newsrooms.
“FeJAL will also work with these mid-level journalists (including print, radio, and television) to engage in a cross-border journalism fellowship with neighboring Sierra Leone,” the release added.
It added, the selected fellows will pay a one week working visit to Newsrooms in Freetown for learning experience and skill exchange, as successful candidates will also benefit from a monthly virtual mentoring program from senior newsroom leaders, in both countries.
FeJAL is recruiting qualified and experienced mid-level female journalists in radio and other fields to participate and benefit from this fellowship.
Core to the fellowship, fellows will be tasked with developing a strategy that will increase women representation in the news and in the newsroom.
The applications process is opened to female journalists with at least five years of professional experience in news reporting and editing. The process will close on Monday, February 13.
