The Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) has announced plans to kick off recruitment in the rural areas of the country.
The disclosure was made by LBS Director General, Estelle Liberty Kemue, when she met with a group of rural journalists, in Gbarnga, Bong County.
Kemue expressed delight over the brilliant performance of rural journalists whom, she said, can make significant contributions to the media, if they are provided the opportunity to practice, at the national level.
She said 60 percent of all well performing journalists in the country, including those working with the national broadcaster are from the rural communities, thus stressing the need for more rural journalists to be given opportunities to be prioritized in the upcoming recruitment drive of LBS.
She called on rural journalists to muster the courage to improve their skills by taking advantage of training and other opportunities that come from LBS, as well as other media institutions and stop looking down upon themselves, by only limiting their practices at community radio level.
