Freedom FM, a commercial radio station in Monrovia has appointed its second female manager since 2016.
Esther Darlene Daku, a female broadcaster who joined the station in 2017 has been appointed Deputy Radio Manager, after serving in previous positions, as radio announcer, presenter and news reporter.
Daku is a member of the Female Journalists Association of Liberia (FEJAL). She joined the medial profession in Liberia following her participation into the International Day of Broadcasting (ICDB) organized by the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) Radio.
She first served as interim at Radio Bushrod in Montserrado’s 15th electoral district, where she got additional radio skills that took her to Worship FM, a Christian radio station in Barnesville in 2013.
At Worship FM, she served in many capacities between 2014 and 2017, prior to joining Freedom FM, including, administrative assistant, radio announcer and program producer.
Her appointment as Deputy Radio Manager has motivated her to do more in the radio sector.
“Honestly, I didn’t see this coming, and I am excited to serve at Freedom FM in a more bigger capacity. With this new position, I think I can expand more on what I have been doing over the years. God did it!” she said.
She said she will along with her bosses and colleagues in ensuring that Freedom FM continues to provide better programming to its audience.
Although Daku is the first female to serve in the position, she makes two the number of females that have served in managerial positions at the station. Lila Fofana, another female previously served as the station’s General Manager.
