The Association of Liberia Community Radios (ALOCOR) has announced it will honor and celebrate the outstanding works of community radio journalists, in observance of the 2023 World Radio Day.
World Radio Day, February 13 February was proclaimed by UNESCO in 2011 to celebrate radio broadcast, improve international cooperation among radio broadcasters and encourage decision-makers to create and provide access to information through radio, including community radios.
The day will be observed under the global theme, “Radio and Peace”.
ALICOR is partnering with Internews in staging the national celebration in Ganta, Nimba county on February 13 and 14, 2023, of which the awards ceremony is one of the several activities, already earmarked.
In a statement, ALICOR said the awards will be presented in several categories, including health, agriculture, environment, gender and human rights, and land rights, as judged by a carefully selected panel of judges comprising of experienced and knowledgeable broadcasters and other professionals.
Entries for the awards were opened on December 19, and will close today, January 25, for assessment by the panel of judges between January 26 and February 8, while finalists will be notified by February 10, and winners announced on February 14.
The association among other things required that all entries must bear proof of being broadcast between January and December 2022.
“All entries should be packaged reports formatted in Mp3 and should not exceed seven minutes in length. Applicants may submit entries to a maximum of two categories. For each category, a maximum of two entries is permitted,” ALICOR revealed.
