The SABC has clarified an audio clip where Metro FM Breakfast show co-host Khutso Theledi is heard, among others, leaving the studio live on air.
Earlier in December, social media was a buzz about an ‘incident’ that took place during the breakfast show.
According to the public broadcaster, it was part of a prank to introduce a new holiday music show hosted by Lamiez Holworthy and Lulo Café. The show was aired on December 9.
“The SABC can confirm that the Metro FM Breakfast show carried out a prank in launching the new holiday music show with Lamiez Holworthy and Lulo Café on the station,” the SABC’s corporate affairs and marketing group executive Gugu Ntuli said in response to News24.
“Unfortunately, some listeners did not receive this as a prank, and the station would like to apologize for any concern this prank may have raised, as it was done in jest.”
In a video shared by Theledi’s co-host, MoFlava explained that everything that happened during their Friday show was a prank. He said that Lulo Café and Lamiez Holworthy had asked to launch the new holiday music show during their show.
“Everything you heard was a prank, and everything we said is not the things that are actually true or things that we mean,” he said.
“We do want to say thank you; we want to say thanks to you, for all the comments, feedback, the laughs, the giggles, the tears that came through. We really appreciate it.”
