South African private commercial radio station based in Cape Town, Smile FM 10.4 has announced updates to its line-up, in celebration of its 10th anniversary.
Smile FM’s new flagship breakfast show sees Ryan O’Connor, Success Lekabe and Ricky Schroeder take to the airwaves to entertain commuters on their way to work. The line-up will also include a game show on weekdays, exclusive to Smile FM (Ryan’s R50 000 Noise), which will be held just after the news at 07:00 and 08:00.
The station’s program manager, Naveen Singh said, “O’Connor will play a mystery noise, a sound so familiar that you probably hear it almost every day. To claim the cash prize, listeners simply need to call in and identify the noise, and the R50 000 (US$ 2,726.11) is theirs.”
The Smile FM’s Drivetime show, The JoyRide with Angel Campey, remains a fixture on weekdays from 16:00 to 19:00 and will now be followed by Slow Jamz. This new music segment will run from 19:00, Monday to Thursday, playing a ‘mix tape’ of rhythm and blues.
Weekends with Smile will now include several fresh new shows:
Jenny Morris on Smile FM, hosted every Saturday from 08:00 to 09:00, sees celebrity chef and household name Jenny Morris sharing her culinary expertise, passion for food and all things gourmet, inspiring listeners for their weekend feasting.
The Saturday Night Party Show is on Saturdays from 18:00 to 23:00. Finally, The South African Jazz Show, hosted every Sunday from 20:00 to 23:00, will pay tribute to the Cape’s jazz scene.
“Cape Town has long been synonymous with jazz, with many of the country’s greats emerging from the city. What better way to celebrate our jazz legends — and inspire a new generation of artists — than by creating a platform where they can showcase their music,” Singh said.
“We’ll also continue to play all the music you know and love – staying true to our promise of playing more 80s than anyone else in Cape Town.”
Smile FM’s managing director Lois O’Brien said the changes are part of decisions made in commemoration of the station’s tenth anniversary.
“We made a strategic decision to reinvigorate our line-up. We strive to keep our programming fresh, relevant, informative and entertaining while lining up radio personalities and music that keeps our listeners smiling,” said O’Brien
