Top Ukhozi FM radio presenter Bheka Mchunu affectionately known as Beekay has returned to the airwaves after spending two weeks in hospital.
According to reports, rumors of his death circulated in November after the radio jock missed his show for three weeks without an official announcement and had to be replaced by Khetha Gwala.
City Press reported that it had learnt that Mchunu, who hosts the Kanye Nawe Show between 12 noon and 3pm, suddenly took ill in the studio one day in early November.
Reports said a source close to the presenter said he collapsed while at work and was rushed to hospital. It was not the first time he collapsed at work, according to the source.
Following his return, the star declined to comment on the matter, but said he was fine.
“I can’t comment on this. I’m okay and back at work,” he said.
Another source said Mchunu had received help from traditional healers.
“The last time this happened, he lost his voice live on air while talking to a listener. The strange thing was that he wasn’t the only presenter affected that way at the time. Others went through the same thing, the source said.
“So, after Beekay was admitted to hospital, some traditional healers reached out to him and helped him recover, because they believed his illness had been caused by a spiritual attack.”
Mchunu was back at work on December 20 and was said to be in high spirits.
“He’s grateful for his recovery. At one point, he didn’t think he’d make it, so for him to be discharged, get well and go back to work is a blessing. Many other people [admitted for different reasons] didn’t make it out of hospital this year,” the source added.
