YFM presenter, Nhlamulo “DJ Mulo” Hlungwani has died.
The family of the former YFM presenter confirmed his passing on social media and said he died on Saturday, 16 December.
According to the statement, he was battling cancer.
“It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of our beloved Nhlamulo (fondly known as DJ Mulo) on the morning of the 16th of December 2023. He passed away peacefully at his home in Bryanston after his battle with cancer,” the statement read.
Mulo was married to former Craz-e presenter, Ntokozo Molefe. They tied the knot in 2019 and welcomed their son in 2020.
His family said they were blessed to have experienced him.
“We know that he has touched many lives and has brought endless joy to those around him. We would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all the love, support and prayers that have been coming our way. We were truly blessed to have experienced a wonderful soul like his and will forever remember him,” they wrote.
They said details of the funeral will be announced soon.
Mulo opened up about his struggle with cancer on Instagram in August 2023, saying he had been diagnosed almost a year ago.
“Over the last couple of months, almost close to a year, I have been dealing with a very heavy burden. It all started with excruciating abdominal pains that I couldn’t quite explain. The doctors searched but couldn’t find anything wrong, to which I celebrated (and that was this time last year on my birthday).
“However, many months passed, and I started losing a lot of weight. I wasn’t able to eat properly, and my overall health started to deteriorate. So I went for more tests, and in October last year, I was diagnosed with cancer,” he wrote.
He said he underwent chemotherapy for six months and it went well.
“I’m still dealing with this battle myself but would like to think the worst is behind me. With the support of my wife, my mother, my family and close friends, I have regained my strength and know that if others have beat this then so can I. I’m not out of the woods yet, my treatment continues and I’d like to thank everyone who’s been there for me,” he wrote at the time.
