FRCN wins Radio Station of the year award

The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, has again been named the Radio Station of the year at the 30th edition of Nigeria Media Merit Awards, NMMA, ceremony held on Saturday in Lagos.

At the event, a staff of the FRCN, Stephen Esabu was also declared winner of Radio Producer of the year.

The award of NBC Prize for radio station of the year, won by the Federal Radio Corporation, FRCN, is under the special category of the Nigeria Media Merit Award.

Receiving the award on behalf of the Corporation, the Director Lagos Operations of the FRCN, Mrs. Bolanle Owoyemi, said it was a thing of honor that Radio Nigeria has consistently won the award.

Mrs. Owoyemi represented by the General Manager, Bond FM, Princess Adenike Adegoke promised that the station would not relent, but work even harder to sustain the standards in the nation’s broadcast industry.

This means a big thing to us because we are winning again. We want to say a big thank you to the Nigeria Media Merit Award and its committees for putting this up.”

This means we are doing it well and we should continue doing it well. We will put all hands-on deck so that we don’t rest on our oars. We will do more to ensure that we remain on top as the flagship of broadcasting in Nigeria.

In his remark, President Buhari commended the award recipients for striving to be outstanding.

President Buhari explained that the major reason for hosting the event in Lagos was to showcase the success stories of the state to the world.

Represented by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the President noted that Lagos has become an undisputable hub for music, sports and enterprise, just as it is home for world class tourist attractions and fashion capital of Africa

The Nigeria Media Merit Award has helped to foster media excellence and has emerged as the foremost in Africa.”

“The theme for this year’s edition, which is Projecting Lagos as centre of excellence beyond Africa is aimed at projecting Lagos to the world.

Lagos has become an undisputable hub for music, sports and entertainment not only in Nigeria but Africa at large.

“Lagos provides a beautiful mix of business and culture and boasts of being a world class tourist attraction. It is also the fashion capital of Africa.”

We must not forget the iconic National Theatre built in 1976, a section of the newly refurbished edifice, has been completed. With planned completion of the four sections for fashion, music, film and ICT, the National Theatre is set to emerge as the Lagos creative and entertainment centre. Thanks to partnership between the Federal Government and the Bankers’ Committee, heavily supported by the Lagos State Government”, he said.

On his part, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-olu said the Nigerian Media deserved accolades for its immense role in the evolution of the country and growth of the nation’s democracy.

Mr. Sanwo-olu celebrated the winners in various categories of the award and NMMA for sustaining the initiative and urged journalists to strive to uphold the ethics of the profession, especially in this period of election.

He also pledged the commitment of his administration to provide a conducive environment for journalists to operate in Lagos.

Chairman, NMMA, Dr. Haruna Adamu commended the award founding fathers for acknowledging media Professionals for doing so much for the country.

The Senior Special Assistant to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu was among numerous dignitaries that attended the ceremony.

Over 800 entries were received as against about 500 in 2021.
