New privately owned commercial radio station Cape FM launches in Monrovia

Cape FM, a privately owned commercial radio station, has officially opened in Monrovia. The station, registered with the Liberian government under the mother institution, Cape Communications Inc. was launched on Friday, May 9.

It is said to be owned and managed by Smith Toby, the former deputy Presidential Press Secretary, under President George Weah. Toby also briefly worked with OK FM, before his call to the government. He earlier worked at the national broadcaster, ELBC and privately operated Truth FM.

Cape FM’s News Director, Julius Konton told RadioInfo Africa that the mission of the station is to among other things make an impact in the media landscape and Liberia at large through a balanced and professional broadcast.

Fairness, independence, authenticity, and credibility are our core values,” Konton said. “We intend to change the dynamics of broadcasting by unearthing the untold stories. Investigation and human interests as well as development issues will be prioritized on our platform.”

The station has a nicely branded broadcast studio, a website, and Facebook and YouTube pages, which it anticipates utilizing for its information dissemination.

Konton last worked at Sky FM and TV as News Director and ELBC/ LNTV as senior Reporter assigned at the Executive Mansion.

My coming back on the radio is just a pleasure and an amazing time to serve the public by providing professional and unbiased information to the public,” he highlighted. “I do miss the radio, and my reintroduction will add new flavor and taste on the airwaves.”

While on this radio, he promised to focus on expert voices and opinions intended to identify and find solutions to pressing issues that significantly affect the growth and development of the country.

Other broadcasters to form part of the station’s line up according to him include, former Press Union of Liberia’s assistant secretary, Akoi Baysah, news editor; Oretha Bundoo Seh formerly of ECOWAS Radio, director of programs;  Stephen Sonpon, reporter assigned at the executive mansion; Jeff Jefferson, formerly of Freedom FM, reporter assigned at the national legislature; Florence Flomo, senior reporter; Julius Gbokie, announcer/ producer; Martina Franciah, reporter; Theophilus Williams, senior reporter/ presenter, and Emmanuel Toe, senior reporter/presenter.
