FRCN seeks northern governors’ support to revive historic Radio Nigeria Kaduna

The Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Dr. Mohammed Bulama, has appealed to Northern state governors to rally behind the revitalization of Radio Nigeria Kaduna, describing it as a vital institutional pillar in the country’s broadcasting history.

Dr. Bulama made the call at the FRCN headquarters in Abuja during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Kebbi State Government, led by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Mallam Yakubu Birnin-Kebbi.

While disclosing that FRCN has already commenced upgrades at the Kaduna Zonal Station, including installing new medium-wave transmitters and solar-powered systems, the Director-General emphasized that collective regional state support remains critical to returning the station to its historic prominence.

Bulama specifically urged Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, to spearhead a collaborative intervention among his peers in the region.

I would like His Excellency, the Governor of Kebbi State, to become the rallying point for collaboration among Northern governors to fully revive Radio Nigeria Kaduna. It is a task we cannot accomplish alone,” Bulama stated, noting the station’s strategic role in information dissemination across Northern Nigeria. “That legacy must not be allowed to fade.”

The FRCN chief explained that while similar network modernizations are ongoing in Abuja, Enugu, and the North-East, Kaduna’s unique historical weight requires a concerted push from North-West stakeholders and regional governments.

In response to the advocacy tour by the Kebbi delegation, Dr. Bulama assured that FRCN is fully prepared to deploy its extensive network, comprising nearly 50 stations nationwide and expanding digital multimedia platforms, to project the socio-economic strides of Kebbi State.

He described Kebbi as a highly endowed state whose immense agricultural and solid mineral wealth is being unlocked through current infrastructural and social investments.

Speaking on the purpose of the visit, Commissioner Yakubu Birnin-Kebbi stated that the state is eager to deepen its partnership with national broadcasters to communicate a narrative of rapid transformation.

We have reached a stage in Kebbi State where we need to tell our story, a story of progress, unprecedented infrastructural development, and a state breaking free from decades of underdevelopment,” the Commissioner said.
