Detectives in Nairobi have launched an investigation into the sudden death of Festus Amimo, the head of Kenya Broadcasting Corporation’s (KBC) Mayienga Radio and chair of the Luo Journalists Association.
Police say Amimo collapsed and died on Saturday night in Nairobi. His body was taken to City Mortuary early Sunday, where it awaits a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.
Amimo, who passed away on December 7, 2025, was widely respected for his commitment to community broadcasting and cultural preservation. At KBC, colleagues described him as a principled editor who championed accuracy, cultural sensitivity, and mentorship for young journalists.
Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo remembered him as a warm and humble leader whose influence shaped many voices in the profession. KBC Managing Director Agnes Kalekye praised Amimo’s leadership and passion for radio, noting his role in elevating Mayienga FM into a key Luo-language station.
Siaya Governor James Orengo also paid tribute, calling Amimo’s on-air work exceptional and his death a significant loss to the community.
The investigation into his sudden death continues.
