Radio listening remains strong over summer: GfK

Research conducted by GfK in early 2020 has provided an insight into where, how and why listeners turn to radio during summer.

The survey found that radio played an important role in keeping Australians informed during the bushfire emergency last summer with radio stations quick to react, providing time-critical news to those directly affected, as well as the millions of concerned Australians eager to stay updated on the rapidly changing situation.

According to GfK, radio listening has maintained a steady reach over summer for the past three years, and this summer is expected to be no different, as Australians take their Christmas breaks either at home or a local holiday destination.

Overall almost 9 in 10 radio listeners tune in for as much or more in summer, and 94% of listeners agree that radio is a great source of information in summer.

74% of listeners agree that they would turn to radio for information in an emergency situation and  68% agree that radio is the place they turn to for information on local events/news.
