Suit hits Radio Africa Group for claims of abuse and wrongful dismissal

A leading media parent organization, Radio Africa Group is facing lawsuit, for allegations of abuse and wrongful dismissal against a former employee at Classic 105 in Kenya.

Terry Muikamba, a former presenter of Classic FM according to court documents that appearedpublicly on Pulse Live, sued her former employer, mainly for replacing her while she was hospitalized.

Muikamba’s lawyers claim that Radio Africa Group’s head of programs, Pete Sinclair and Human Resource Manager, in 2019, jointly sought their client’s replacement after she was hospitalized for a long time.

According to the indictment, the former employee also claimed that the working environment at Classic was hostile, and that Sinclair was mostly abusive and derogatory to her.

“He would on numerous occasions refer to the claimant in a derogatory manner and refer to her as a sickling and follow it up with a f*cking useless,” it said.

The indictment alleges that insults and harassments against the plaintiff increased after she complained about her boss to the HR, which proved that he was untouchable, even if he violates the rights of other staff. The continuance of such actions by her boss, it added, made the working environment toxic for her, thus leading to traumas and stress.

In her suits, she is claiming a twelve-month salary from her former employer as damages for her unlawful dismissal, one-year salary for the remainder period of her contract, two months’ pay in lieu notice of her termination, unpaid wages for voice over services, money illegally deducted from her pay, and to be issued a certificate of service by her former employee.

Muikamba, now a presenter at Hot 96 also reveals to Pulse Live that her move from Classic 105 to Hot 96, where she was in the earliest days of her media career, was inspired by the need to grow and try out something new.

“I was on Classic 105 for three years hosting the Drive with Mike Mondo but I left, end of November to December and currently am back home,” she said.

“I like to say home because that’s where I started.”
