Veteran broadcaster Sibiya releases first batch of radio graduates

Former Ukhozi FM presenter Linda “Mr. Magic” Sibiya’s school of broadcasting has hosted the first graduation ceremony for its first batch of students.

Sibiya, who was kicked out by the public broadcaster in 2014, established his Magic Broadcasting Academy in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

Sibiya was fired on the allegations of corruption with the company that was set to hold the awards for Ukhozi FM legendary presenters. Although he won that case at a later stage, he never returned to the station.

Through the broadcasting school’s social media accounts, it thanked Umfolozi College and MICTSETA for their support.

After two tough years, the first class of Magic Broadcasting Academy has finally graduated with their national certificate in radio production. Well done to all the students for making it this far, the world is yours,” the school said.

Thank you to Umfolozi College and MICTSETA for their incredible support, this wouldn’t have been possible without you.”

The school offers qualifications in radio production, film and television production, as well as advertising.

Sibiya said plans are under way to open branches in Newcastle, Pietermaritzburg, Port Shepstone, Mthatha, Nelspruit and East London in 2023.

A graduate from the school, Minenhle Zakwe, said she is happy for everyone who graduated and is proud to have been a part of the journey.
