TUT FM 96.2 appoints dynamic new board to spearhead digital growth and innovation

TUT FM 96.2, the prominent campus-community radio station of the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), has officially ushered in a new era of governance.

At its Annual General Meeting on June 10, 2026, the station elected a highly skilled, diverse eight-member Board of Directors tasked with driving operational excellence, innovation, and strategic expansion across South Africa’s evolving digital media landscape.

The incoming board consists of an equal split of four women and four men. This leadership transition aims to reinforce the station’s footprint as a leading community broadcaster while bridging the gap between campus life and regional development.

Based outside Soshanguve, TUT FM 96.2 commands a loyal base of more than 60,000 listeners within a 50-kilometer radius. Its footprint spans key regional hubs including Ga-Rankuwa, Mabopane, and the Pretoria Central Business District (CBD).

The station serves as a vital tool for social advancement, broadcasting in six local languages: English, Sepedi, Setswana, isiZulu, Tshivenda, and Xitsonga. Outside of its entertainment lineup, TUT FM specializes in youth empowerment, grassroots news, and local entrepreneurship features.

The newly appointed board brings over two decades of combined experience across media governance, language policy, public relations, and fundraising. They are Dr. Lerato Motsisi-Mji, a marketing and communication specialist holding a Doctor of Business Administration, currently serving as a faculty marketer for TUT’s Faculty of Humanities; Ms. Boitumelo Mthembu: A doctoral candidate in entrepreneurship and former Acting Deputy Director of Extracurricular Development at TUT, specializing in student governance; Hector Mathabe, foundational pioneer of the station (formerly Radio TNG) and an events specialist with deep broadcasting history at Radio Bop and Kaya FM, and  Masilo Vincent Serumula, community radio governance veteran and current stakeholder relations officer at Dr. George Mukhari Academic Hospital.

Others are Mpho Leshabane, a funding and corporate governance specialist with 25 years of institutional experience spanning the Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) and the National Lottery Commission; Ms. Pontsho Nage, a National Skills Fund professional holding an MBA, focused heavily on project management and oversight; Prof. Tebogo J. Rakgogo, an NRF-rated Associate Professor and Head of Applied Languages at TUT, bringing expertise in institutional language policies, and Ms. Kgaugelo Jessica Selane, a journalist and current Social Media Manager at TUT with a core background in digital communication strategies.

TUT FM Station Manager Kedibone Tshelela strongly welcomed the appointments, calling the arrival of the new leadership team both crucial and long overdue.

The appointment of this calibre of leadership will contribute immensely to the growth and development of TUT FM,” said Tshelela. “Their collective experience will help us strengthen governance, unlock new opportunities, attract partnerships and funding, and position TUT FM among the leading university and community radio stations in South Africa.”

As media consumption shifts increasingly toward online and on-demand streaming, the board’s immediate mandate will involve modernizing the station’s operational framework, building new commercial funding models, and expanding its multi-platform digital reach.
