Conferences and trade shows for 2023

Radio, audio and technology conferences and trade shows are back in a big way for 2023 with growing numbers expected after a quieter couple of years.

ABU Digital Broadcasting Symposium, Kuala Lumpur, March 6-9 is back as an in-person event after a break of two years.

The DBS2023 event will address challenges, find solutions and share experiences related to digital transition, technology implementation, creative content ideas, and enhancing user experiences.

ABU-Rai Conference, Florence, March 13-14

Hosted by the Italian Public Service Broadcaster, RAI, this conference for Public Service Media will be answering questions such as:

  • How do PSMs use the lessons of the past few years, and take positive steps towards a sustainable future in content, technology, and resources?
  • What models have broadcasters around the world trialled and implemented, and how they have been received by staff and the public?
  • How to best explain the risks of unsustainable lifestyles and promote change among our audience through news, programs and editorial offerings, with projects, media partnerships, and joint action?

Radiodays Europe, Prague, Mar 26-28

Radiodays Europe is a major event in the Radio, Podcast and Audio World bringing together over 1,500 visitors from 65 countries over 3 days.

The event is organised into sessions including keynote speeches, panel discussions, interactive sessions, summits, workshops and networking events.

The conference this year starts at 9.00am on Sunday 26th March with the Free Radidoays Europe Inclusive (formerly Radiodays Europe Women), event followed by three Summits on the Sunday afternoon: Youth, Podcast and Data Research.

NAB Show, Las Vegas, Apr 15-9 will mark the centenary of the NAB.

In 1923, 16 radio stations met in Chicago for the first organisational meeting of the National Association of Broadcasters.

The NAB Show is the world’s biggest trade fair for audio and vision and there will be radio and audio focused sessions incorporated into the NAB Show.

All 2023 New York Festivals award winners will be celebrated at the NYF Storytellers Gala taking place on April 18th during the NAB Show.

The RAB RadioShow that used to be held in the latter part of the year is now incorporated into the NAB Show.

 

MPTS 10 –11 May 2023, London 

The Media Production & Technology Show 2023 is the UK’s largest event for the broadcast media, production and technology industry.

It returns in 2023 for a sixth show and aims to welcome back visitors from around the world with an expanded line-up of compelling speakers, content and new exhibitors.

2022 saw a record number of over 300 exhibitors and 8,000 attendees from 40 different countries.

This year MPTS returns with a special focus on interactivity, encouraging visitors to learn and discover the latest technologies and future trends in audio, remote production, lighting, post, sports broadcasting and virtual production.

 

KOBA, Seoul, May 16-19, the 31st Korea International Broadcasting, Media, Audio & Lighting Show.

KOBA is going to be presenting the next generation’s broadcasting services and the future of the image, sound and lighting industries.

More than 80 international broadcasting technology conferences will be hosted by KOBETA (The Korea Broadcasting Engineers &Technicians Association).

Sound-related seminars held by technical experts will be organized by KASA (Korea Association of Sound Artists) and the Acoustical Society of Korea, will provide an opportunity to acquire specialised information regarding sound and broadcasting systems. In addition to that, a wide variety of events are planned.

 

Broadcast Asia, Singapore, 7-9 June.

Billed as Asia’s largest broadcast technology stage, this conference brings together the most influential regional broadcasters, media and entertainment professionals.

This allows broadcasters to

IBC, Amsterdam, 15-18 Sept.

Next to the NAB Show, this is probably the 2nd biggest trade show in the world.

Radiodays Asia, Kuala Lumpur, September TBA

 

WRC, Dubai, Begins 20 November

World Radiocommunication Conferences (WRC) are held every three to four years to review, and, if necessary, revise the Radio Regulations, the international treaty governing the use of the radio-frequency spectrum and the geostationary-satellite and non-geostationary-satellite orbits.

Revisions are made on the basis of an agenda determined by the ITU Council, which takes into account recommendations made by previous world radiocommunication conferences.

 

WorldDAB Summit 2023 will probably be in the latter part of the year. The 2022 Summit was held in November.

Australia’s CBAA Conference is tentatively set down for 16 –  18 November at a venue TBA.

The Australian Comercial Radio Awards will be in Sydney on October 14 at the ICC, but at this stage there has been no decision on the CRA conference for 2023.
