Nigeria’s broadcast regulator praises Gift FM for quality programming and editorial standards

Nigeria’s broadcast regulator has praised a state radio station for maintaining high programming standards and credible news reporting.

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) in Taraba State praised Gift FM Jalingo, a station under the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria network, for its “quality programs and objective reportage.”

The commendation was delivered by Taraba State NBC officer Agnes Ukpo during a courtesy visit by the station’s management team led by General Manager Emmanuel Ejim.

Ukpo said the station’s recent improvements, particularly in gender-inclusive programming and news-focused content, demonstrate a commitment to responsible broadcasting aligned with national standards.

The Commission exists to ensure that the Nigerian airwaves are not abused,” she noted, emphasizing NBC’s role in monitoring content and safeguarding public trust in the media.

Both NBC and Radio Nigeria, she said, are working toward a shared goal: ensuring that citizens receive accurate, balanced, and development-oriented information.

Ukpo encouraged the station to expand its local programming to better serve rural audiences in Taraba State, where radio remains a primary source of news and education.

For his part, Ejim said the visit was aimed at deepening collaboration with the regulator and reinforcing the station’s adherence to professional standards.

He reaffirmed the broadcaster’s commitment to the NBC Code, which governs content, ethics, and operational guidelines for Nigeria’s radio and television industry.

Radio Nigeria remains a model for professionalism in broadcasting,” Ejim said, adding that closer cooperation with regulators would help improve compliance and overall content quality.

The exchange underscores the enduring importance of radio in Nigeria, particularly in underserved regions where access to digital media is limited.

As regulators and broadcasters work more closely, analysts say such partnerships could play a key role in maintaining credibility, promoting inclusive content, and ensuring that radio continues to serve as a reliable source of public information in Africa’s most populous nation.
