Nigerian public broadcasters Radio Lagos and Eko FM win big at national broadcasting awards

Two leading public radio stations in Nigeria, Radio Lagos and Eko FM, have taken top honors at the Nigeria Broadcasting Awards, securing six major wins and reinforcing their influence in the country’s media landscape.

The awards, organized by the Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria, recognized excellence across radio and television, drawing 248 entries from broadcasters nationwide. The Lagos based stations stood out for their performance in news delivery, programming, and overall professionalism.

Among the top prizes were Radio Station of the Year, Best Radio Station – News (English Language), and Best Radio Station – News (Indigenous Language). The stations also earned recognition for Original Production in Business, Drama, and Sports in both English and indigenous languages.

Individual excellence was also highlighted, with Gbenga Alli-Balogun named Newscaster of the Year and Titi Adeaga awarded Reporter of the Year.

Receiving the awards on behalf of the stations, General Manager Jide Lawal expressed appreciation to the organizers, noting that the recognition would motivate his team to maintain high standards of broadcasting.

This achievement will encourage us to continue delivering quality content and uphold the professionalism we are known for,” Lawal said.

He also credited the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for his support and leadership, dedicating the awards to him as well as to the stations’ staff and loyal listeners.

Media analysts say the multiple wins highlight the continued relevance of public radio in Nigeria, particularly in reaching diverse audiences through both English and indigenous language programming. With this latest recognition, Radio Lagos and Eko FM have set a new benchmark for excellence in Nigerian broadcasting, strengthening their reputation as trusted voices in the country’s media space.
