Southern African radio journalists are being urged to submit their best work for the 2026 Southern African Development Community (SADC) Media Awards, with a top prize of $2,500 on offer.
South Africa’s Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) said the annual competition is open to radio practitioners from all SADC member states, recognizing excellence in broadcast journalism that promotes regional cooperation, integration and development.
Established in 1996, the SADC Media Awards aim to honor journalism that reflects the shared values, challenges and aspirations of Southern Africa. In the Radio Journalism category, the overall winner will receive $2,500, while the runner-up will be awarded $1,000.
“The awards celebrate media practitioners whose work strengthens regional bonds and deepens public understanding of SADC initiatives,” the GCIS said. “They support SADC’s vision of a common future defined by economic well-being, improved living standards, peace, security, freedom and social justice.”
Radio remains a critical medium across Southern Africa, particularly in rural and underserved communities, making it a key platform for informing the public and advancing regional dialogue.
