South African broadcaster Grant Nash appointed head judge of 2025 Telkom Radio Awards

The Telkom Radio Awards has named veteran broadcaster and media academic Grant Nash as Head Judge for its 15th edition, reinforcing its commitment to fairness, transparency, and innovation in the judging process.

In his new role, Nash will lead the refinement of judging criteria, oversee the selection and allocation of judges, validate all entries, and moderate final results to ensure integrity across every category.

The appointment of a Head Judge is a proactive step to strengthen judging integrity, improve transparency and adapt to the evolving audio landscape. We’re proud to have the benefit of Grant’s industry experience to further cement the Telkom Radio Awards as a much-anticipated event in the radio industry’s calendar,” said Lyndon Barends, Managing Director: Strategic Partnerships and Events at Arena Holdings.

With over two decades of experience in broadcasting, media education, and content strategy, Nash brings both industry insight and academic rigor to the panel. A former co-host of the Grant and Anele Show on 947 and 5FM, Nash also served as Program Manager at both stations, where he launched innovative content strategies and mentorship programs.

Currently Academic and Knowledge Manager at Boston Media House, Nash is also co-author of Next Level Radio, South Africa’s first textbook on radio and communications, and is completing his PhD in Philosophy at the University of Johannesburg.

Reflecting on his appointment, Nash said: “The Telkom South African Radio Awards holds a very special place for me as a previous winner, and I’m proud to now play a part in shaping its future. These awards not only celebrate excellence across the industry but also inspire what the medium can become in the years ahead. They shine a light on the creativity, innovation and talent that drive our industry forward.”

The 2025 Telkom Radio Awards will continue to spotlight talent across South Africa’s radio industry, with categories spanning programming, presenting, technical production, digital media, and special recognition awards such as the Hall of Fame and Bright Star Awards.

As Head Judge, Nash will guide a panel chosen for its expertise and linguistic diversity, ensuring a fair and representative evaluation of entries across the board.

I’m committed to ensuring the judging process remains valid, robust and rigorous, so that the awards continue to represent the very best of South African radio and audio, today and tomorrow,” Nash added.
