South African DJ, producer and record label owner, Nutty Nys has joined 5FM, to host its Sunday Sessions on 5 every Sunday from 18:00 to 21:00. Nys began his broadcast of 5FM on Sunday, February 5.
“I am super excited to join 5FM,” he said, adding that, “The station is a key player in South African urban culture and lifestyle, and I’m looking forward to being a part of it.”
As one can expect from 5’s vibe, he said, “the show will be breaking fresh new music and artists, profiling labels and DJs and chatting with iconic figures in the music space.”
He said the show will also be connecting with niche music collectives, movements, and societies around the country as they are at the forefront of edgy music lifestyle.
According to the station, Nys is a high-octane radio host, music pro and record label owner who started in campus radio. He later moved to commercial youth radio, ultimately successfully heading up the music department.
He started creating tunes at the age of 17 and has since released three albums, two compilations, and over 50 singles.
His career highlights include, winning the Remixer of the Year Award at the 16th South African Music Awards, having his song Umdali remixed by producer / DJ Charles Webster, doing a remix for one of his favourite United Kingdom labels Freerange Records, and interviewing the likes of the late Mam Sibongile Khumalo, Jazzanova, DJ Spinna, Nkemdi Amadiume, Zoe Modiga, Erykah Badu and DJs At Work.
Michael Bossenger, 5FM’s program manager, says the station’s new producer brings a massive music punch and tons of personality to the station.
“As a station, we’re all about bringing the biggest, freshest hits and the coolest new artists first, and he’s a perfect fit for that,” Bossenger said.
“We look forward to having his contagious energy on the airwaves and this show becoming a huge weekend highlight.”
