The remains of veteran Nigerian broadcast journalist Gwamkat Gwamzhi have been laid to rest in the city of Jos in central Nigeria, following tributes from colleagues, family members, and media professionals who described her as a dedicated and impactful broadcaster.

Gwamzhi was buried at her family compound behind COCIN Church Rantya along Miango Road in Jos, Plateau State, after funeral ceremonies attended by journalists, church members, and supporters.

Until her death, Gwamzhi served as a controller in the New Media Directorate of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, the country’s state-owned radio broadcasting network commonly known as Radio Nigeria.

Before joining the corporation’s headquarters, she previously worked with Highland FM, where she built a reputation for professional and community-focused reporting. At the national broadcaster, she later covered Nigeria’s energy sector and contributed to digital and radio journalism initiatives.

Delivering a sermon during the funeral service, Pastor Mamwan Mankilik of the Ceder Tree Worship Centre urged Nigerians to live purposeful lives and make meaningful use of their time on earth.

Colleagues and associates remembered Gwamzhi as hardworking, humble, and committed to the journalism profession. She was particularly recognized for her contributions to media development in Plateau State and for advocating the welfare and professional growth of journalists in Nigeria.

Prior to her burial in Jos, a Service of Songs and candlelight procession were held in her honor in Abuja, where fellow broadcasters, media practitioners, and friends paid tribute.
