The 2025 Telkom Radio Awards honored the country’s top performers in radio broadcasting on Saturday, 6 December, recognizing stations and individuals who continue to drive innovation, creativity, and audience connection across the sector. This year’s top honors saw Hot 102.7FM named Commercial Station of the Year, Ikwekwezi FM winning in the PBS category, Groot FM 90.5 taking the Community Station of the Year award, and Tshwane FM 93.6 crowned Campus Station of the Year.
Listener participation was again at the heart of the MyStation Awards, with Ligwalagwala FM securing the Most Votes title, highlighting its deep and loyal audience engagement.
Honoring Industry Legends
A major highlight of the evening was the induction of six influential broadcasters into the Hall of Fame:
Khomotso Bob Mabena, Johan van Rooyen, Rob Vega, Steve Bishop, Nothemba Madumo, and Mariétta Kruger.
Each inductee has contributed more than three decades of service, leaving an enduring mark on the evolution of South African radio.
Celebrating Rising Stars
The Bright Stars initiative spotlighted emerging talent under the age of 26 who are demonstrating strong potential and creativity. This year, Mtha Agbiriogu, Danielle du Plassis, Simakele Fiyo, and Mongezi Koko were honored as the industry’s most promising young broadcasters.
Recognizing Excellence Across 76 Categories
Awards were presented across 76 categories, spanning Commercial, Community, PBS, and Campus radio, as well as podcasts and online radio. Finalists were judged on performance, innovation, audience engagement, community impact, and the distinctive “x-factor” that differentiates exceptional broadcasters.
Radio’s Enduring Impact
Speaking at the ceremony, Gugu Mthembu, Chief Marketing Officer at Telkom, emphasized the power of radio in building community and capturing the nation’s pulse.
